The anticipation was palpable, the excitement electric as fans, friends, and local Denver bands flocked to see Death Valley Girls' highly anticipated performance at the Underground Music Showcase (UMS). The stage was set, and when Death Valley Girls took the spotlight, they delivered a set that was nothing short of incredible.
Formed in 2013 in Los Angeles, California, Death Valley Girls is a force to be reckoned with. The band, consisting of the charismatic Bonnie Bloomgarden (vocalist and keyboardist), Larry Schemel (guitarist), Sammy Westervelt (bassist), and Rikki Styxx (drummer), defies easy categorization. Their music is a fusion of garage rock, punk, psych rock, gothic rock, and elements of surf rock and 1960s girl groups. It's a sound that's as versatile as it is unique, and it's reflected in the electrifying live performances they deliver.
As the UMS crowd gathered, there was a sense of collective excitement. One of the most captivating aspects of Death Valley Girls' performances is the on-stage theatricality. It's not just about the music; it's about the entire experience. Bonnie Bloomgarden's commanding presence, the band's high-energy delivery, and the theatrical elements woven into their shows all come together to create an immersive experience that leaves a lasting impact.
Death Valley Girls' performance at UMS was a night to remember. Their genre-blurring sound, raw energy, and the connection they establish with their audience are what make them a remarkable live act. Through my photographs, I hope to convey the magic of that night and I'm excited to share it with you.
